In a major effort to reduce the burden on courts and promote faster delivery of justice, the District Legal Services Authority in Ganderbal has introduced a special initiative titled Samadhan Samaroh. The program has been launched under the guidance of the Supreme Court of India and seeks to encourage the settlement of pending cases through mediation and mutual agreement rather than prolonged courtroom proceedings.
The initiative is being seen as an important preparatory step for a large Special Lok Adalat scheduled to be held later this year, likely in August. Authorities believe that early engagement through this program will help identify cases that are suitable for amicable resolution, thereby ensuring smoother proceedings during the Lok Adalat.
Samadhan Samaroh is open to individuals whose cases are currently pending in courts and can be resolved through discussion and compromise. A wide variety of disputes fall within its scope, including property disagreements, financial matters, family and marital issues, employment-related conflicts, insurance claims, and certain minor criminal cases where legal provisions permit settlement between the parties. By focusing on such cases, the initiative aims to reduce unnecessary litigation and provide timely relief to those involved.
Officials have emphasized that the program offers litigants a valuable opportunity to resolve their disputes in a more relaxed and cooperative environment. Unlike traditional court proceedings, which can be time-consuming and stressful, mediation allows both sides to communicate openly and arrive at mutually acceptable solutions. This approach not only saves time and money but also helps in preserving relationships, especially in cases involving families or long-term associations.
To facilitate participation, the District Legal Services Authority has opened its office at the District Court Complex in Ganderbal for registrations. Interested individuals, along with members of the legal fraternity, are encouraged to visit the office and enroll their cases for consideration. Authorities have advised early registration so that eligible cases can be properly reviewed and shortlisted ahead of the settlement sessions.
In order to maximize outreach and ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach all sections of society, legal volunteers and field staff have been deployed across different parts of the district. These representatives are actively engaging with residents, identifying suitable cases, and spreading awareness about the advantages of resolving disputes outside the formal court system. They are also assisting people in understanding the process and guiding them in accessing legal support services available under the initiative.
The move reflects a broader effort to make the justice delivery system more accessible, efficient, and user-friendly. By promoting alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as mediation and Lok Adalats, authorities aim to ease the pressure on courts while simultaneously delivering quicker outcomes for citizens.
