CUJ hosts first ever Ph D Supervisor Certification ceremony to boost grassroots research

The Cluster University of Jammu marked a significant milestone by hosting its first Certificate Distribution Ceremony recognizing Ph.D. Supervisors from its constituent colleges, signalling a decisive push to strengthen research at the grassroots academic level.
Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education, Ram Niwas Sharma, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
In his address, the Commissioner Secretary underscored the pivotal role of research supervision in strengthening higher education and fostering a robust academic ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that quality research guidance is central to nation-building and knowledge creation.
Highlighting the importance of channelizing the youth towards academics, he stressed that research must act as a constructive force in shaping the informed and responsible citizens.
Ram Niwas Sharma further spoke on the relevance of research and development in advancing the national initiatives such as “Nasha Mukt Bharat”, particularly in regions facing socio-cultural challenges due to external influences. He reiterated that the responsibility of academic institutions extends beyond curriculum to ensuring the holistic safety, well-being, and development of students.
The guest of honour, Professor K. S. Chandrasekar, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu, highlighted the importance of academic leadership, ethical research practices and interdisciplinary collaboration.
He appreciated the initiative of recognizing research supervisors and called upon the faculty members to contribute meaningfully towards enhancing research standards and academic excellence within the University.
The programme was convened by Prof. (Dr.) Satinder Kaur, Dean Research Studies, who presented an overview of the University’s research initiatives. She reiterated the institution’s commitment to nurture a vibrant and inclusive research culture across its constituent colleges with the introduction of research at Under Graduate and Post Graduate Level
She informed that the University is steadily advancing in contemporary and market-oriented research domains, with a forward-looking focus on emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
Reaffirming the University’s dedication to national priorities, she emphasized that meaningful and socially responsive and inclusive research is essential for building a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” for healthier, stronger, and progressive society. The event was also attended by the Principals of PSPS Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu; GGM Science College; SPMR College of Commerce and Government College of Education, Jammu besides senior university administration officials including the Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Dean Academic Affairs, Chief Accounts & Finance Officer (CA&FA) and Dean Students Welfare (DSW). In addition, Deans and Coordinators of all Schools of Cluster University of Jammu participated in the ceremony, marking a collective academic engagement at the institutional level.
A total of 48 newly appointed Research Supervisors from constituent colleges were felicitated and awarded certificates in recognition of their academic excellence and contribution to research and development.
