Under the visionary leadership of Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Reasi, Khalil Choudhary, who also serves as Principal District and Sessions Judge, and under the guidance of Secretary Pooja Gupta, a series of awareness programmes focusing on afforestation and water conservation were organized across various locations in the district.
The initiatives were conducted at Legal Aid Clinic Arabia, Shibrass, and several other areas in Mahore, with active participation of Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) of the Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC) Mahore. The programmes aimed to sensitize the local population about the importance of environmental protection and the urgent need to preserve natural resources for future generations. During the sessions on afforestation, the PLVs highlighted the critical role of tree plantation in maintaining ecological balance. They explained how forests contribute to regulating climate, improving air quality, and preventing soil erosion. The volunteers also drew attention to the alarming consequences of deforestation, including loss of biodiversity, disruption of ecosystems, and increased vulnerability to natural disasters. The participants were encouraged to take individual and collective responsibility for planting and nurturing trees in their surroundings. The awareness drives witnessed enthusiastic participation from local residents, who were urged to adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives. The PLVs emphasized that even small efforts, such as planting saplings and protecting existing greenery, can have a significant impact on environmental sustainability over time.
In a related initiative, a poster-making competition on the theme “Save Environment” was organized at Government Middle School Nangal Katra. The competition saw the participation of ten students, who creatively expressed their ideas and concerns regarding environmental protection through art.

The students used vibrant colors and imaginative concepts to convey messages about the importance of conserving nature, reducing pollution, and safeguarding the planet. The event not only provided a platform for young minds to showcase their artistic talents but also helped instill a sense of environmental responsibility among them. The winners of the competition were felicitated with medals in recognition of their efforts.
Additionally, an awareness programme on water conservation was organized at Bus Stand Reasi by the PLVs of DLSA. The initiative aimed to educate the local populace about the importance of conserving water and adopting sustainable practices in its usage. The volunteers highlighted the growing concerns over water scarcity and stressed the need for immediate action to prevent wastage.
The PLVs shared practical and easy-to-implement measures for water conservation, including rainwater harvesting, careful use of water in households, and the protection of natural water sources such as springs and rivers. They emphasized that responsible water usage is essential not only for meeting present needs but also for ensuring availability for future generations.
The programmes collectively reinforced the message that environmental conservation is a shared responsibility and requires active participation from all sections of society. Through these initiatives, DLSA Reasi continues to play a proactive role in spreading awareness and encouraging community involvement in safeguarding the environment.
