The two-day Cursor Hackathon Kashmir concluded at National Institute of Technology Srinagar, witnessing enthusiastic participation and a remarkable display of innovative, real-world technology solutions developed by young minds. The event brought together aspiring developers, students and innovators from across the region, creating a vibrant platform for creativity, collaboration and problem-solving.
A total of 125 teams participated on the first day of the hackathon, engaging in intensive ideation and development cycles before submitting their projects. The event stood out for its inclusive nature, as participants from diverse age groups and backgrounds came forward to showcase their talent. Notably, an 11-year-old innovator also took part in the competition, reflecting the growing grassroots interest and early engagement in the field of technology. Following a rigorous evaluation process, 15 teams were shortlisted for the final round. On the second day, these finalists presented live pitches supported by working prototypes, demonstrating both the technical depth and practical applicability of their solutions. The projects focused on addressing everyday challenges through innovative and scalable approaches, highlighting the potential of technology in solving real-world problems.
Participants made effective use of advanced tools and platforms, including OpenAI, Cursor, Exa and Convex, to build efficient and impactful solutions. The integration of such modern technologies reflected the participants’ awareness of emerging trends and their ability to adapt to a rapidly evolving digital landscape. The jury panel comprised Iqra Altaf Gillani, Kaiser Giri, Mohtasham Madani and Inaam ul Haq. The judges evaluated the entries based on parameters such as innovation, execution, feasibility and real-world impact. Their comprehensive assessment ensured that the most promising and practical solutions were recognized and encouraged.
In his message, Director of NIT Srinagar, Binod Kumar Kanaujia, stated that the hackathon has further strengthened the culture of coding excellence, collaboration and problem-solving among students. He emphasized that such platforms not only enhance technical skills but also encourage participants to think creatively and work collectively to tackle real-world challenges. He added that the institute remains committed to preparing students for an increasingly competitive and dynamic technological environment.
Registrar Atikur Rehman also highlighted the significance of the event, stating that the successful conclusion of the hackathon reflects the institute’s continuous focus on promoting innovation and hands-on learning. He reiterated the goal of building a vibrant ecosystem where students are encouraged to experiment, innovate and transform their ideas into meaningful and impactful solutions.
Faculty Coordinator of the Technology Club, Iqra Altaf Gillani, noted that the hackathon showcased the immense potential of young innovators. She observed that the quality of ideas and execution demonstrated by participants indicates a strong foundation for future technological growth in the region. Similarly, Kaiser Giri remarked that the level of innovation witnessed during the event was highly encouraging, with several solutions having the potential to evolve into scalable products addressing real-world issues. Mohtasham Madani, serving as Ambassador of Cursor, expressed appreciation for the participants’ ability to effectively leverage modern AI tools and platforms. He stated that the hackathon created a meaningful space for learning, collaboration and innovation. Inaam ul Haq also commended the technical depth and practical approach displayed by the finalists, emphasizing that such events play a crucial role in nurturing industry-ready talent.
The hackathon also attracted an engaged audience, with participants actively attending the pitching sessions and interacting with presenters. The overall atmosphere reflected a collaborative yet competitive environment, fostering innovation and knowledge sharing among participants.
