A 36-year-old employee of a digital lending company was found dead inside a locked car in Lucknow in the early hours of Friday, with police saying the exact cause of death would be determined only after the postmortem examination and forensic analysis. Police said they received information around 1 am that a foul smell was emanating from a car parked near Saleh Nagar crossing in the Ashiyana area.
A police team rushed to the spot and found the car locked from inside, with a man lying inside. Senior police officers also visited the scene and supervised the inspection.
“Following due legal procedure, the vehicle was opened and the man was found dead,” the police said in a statement.
The vehicle was found to be registered in Rae Bareli district and the deceased was identified as Gyanendra Singh (36), a native of Nirala Nagar in the city, through details obtained from the e-challan application and an identity card recovered from inside the car. His identity was confirmed by his brother, Satyavendra Singh.
During preliminary inquiry, police found that Singh was living in a rented house in Pawanpuri, Devikheda in the the Ashiyana police station limits, and was employed with a digital lending (fintech) company that provides personal loans and other digital credit services.
Police said the deceased was married and is survived by his wife and a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter. His family members reached the spot after being informed.
“The actual cause of death can be confirmed only on the basis of the postmortem report and other scientific and physical evidence,” the police said. The case is being investigated from all angles, they added.
