The Indian Army organised a Gujjar and Bakkarwal Meet at Agsi in Reasi district as part of its continuing efforts to strengthen civil-military relations and promote the welfare and development of tribal communities living in remote areas. The programme, held on July 18, brought together members of the Gujjar and Bakkarwal community, providing them with an opportunity to interact directly with Army representatives and discuss issues concerning their socio-economic development.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from tribal elders, youth and other members of the local community, reflecting the growing engagement between the Army and residents of remote regions. The interaction served as an open platform where participants shared their concerns, highlighted local developmental needs and exchanged views on issues affecting their daily lives.
Army officials encouraged open dialogue during the programme, assuring the community that their suggestions and concerns would be taken into consideration. The interaction focused on strengthening mutual trust and enhancing cooperation between the security forces and the local population, particularly in areas where the Gujjar and Bakkarwal communities play an important role in the social and cultural fabric of the region.
During the meeting, the Army also conducted awareness sessions on various government welfare schemes aimed at improving the quality of life of tribal communities. Participants were informed about educational opportunities, healthcare initiatives, skill development programmes and employment avenues available under different government initiatives. The objective was to ensure that members of these communities are aware of the benefits and support systems designed for their upliftment.
Special emphasis was laid on encouraging young people to pursue education, vocational training and skill development programmes that could enhance their employment prospects. Army representatives motivated the youth to contribute positively to society by participating in nation-building activities and maintaining peace, harmony and communal unity in the region.
The programme also highlighted the importance of education as a means of social and economic progress. Community members were encouraged to ensure that children, especially those living in remote and migratory areas, have access to educational opportunities that can help build a better future.
Healthcare awareness formed another important component of the outreach initiative. Information regarding available medical facilities, health awareness campaigns and government healthcare programmes was shared with participants, with the aim of improving access to essential health services in remote areas.
Members of the Gujjar and Bakkarwal community appreciated the Indian Army’s continued efforts to engage with people living in far-flung villages and acknowledged its contribution towards promoting security, development and confidence among local residents. They welcomed such initiatives, stating that regular interaction helps strengthen understanding and builds lasting trust between the Army and the community.
The event concluded with both the Army and community representatives reaffirming their commitment to working together for the overall development, prosperity and peaceful progress of the region. Participants expressed hope that such outreach programmes would continue in the future, enabling greater awareness about government initiatives and creating more opportunities for constructive dialogue.
