However, many spiritual traditions teach a different perspective: that the individual soul is not the ultimate doer but rather a participant in a much larger divine arrangement.The human soul is subtle, eternal, and conscious, but it does not possess the physical instruments required to perform actions independently. Every activity in the material world requires a body, senses, energy, and an environment that supports action. A person may desire to speak, but without a tongue and vocal cords, speech cannot occur. One may wish to walk, but without legs and the strength to move them, walking remains impossible. This indicates that desire alone does not produce action. It requires the cooperation of material elements.Consider a farmer who grows a successful crop. He may work diligently, prepare the soil, sow seeds, and irrigate the land. Yet he cannot create sunlight, rainfall, fertile earth, or the mysterious life force that causes a seed to sprout. These factors are provided by nature. If even one essential element is missing, the harvest may fail despite the farmer’s efforts. Thus, while human effort is important, it is only one component of a larger process.Material nature operates according to laws that are beyond human control. Seasons change, rivers flow, winds blow, and countless biological processes occur without our command. The body itself functions through mechanisms that most people barely understand. The heart beats continuously, the lungs breathe, and cells regenerate day and night. These processes demonstrate that a vast intelligence governs existence beyond individual human will.From a spiritual viewpoint, nature itself is not independent. It functions under the supreme authority of God, who is the source of all energies and laws. Just as a machine works under the guidance of an operator, material nature performs its functions under divine supervision. Therefore, every action ultimately involves three elements: the soul that desires, the material nature that provides the means, and God who sustains and governs the entire system.This understanding becomes even more significant in the life of a devotee. A devotee consciously acknowledges dependence upon God and seeks divine guidance in all aspects of life. Such a person does not abandon action but performs duties with humility and gratitude. Success is accepted as divine grace, while difficulties are viewed as opportunities for learning and spiritual growth. This attitude reduces pride, anxiety, and frustration because the devotee recognizes that the final outcome rests in higher hands.On the other hand, when individuals consider themselves the sole doers, they often become trapped in ego. Temporary achievements create arrogance, while failures produce despair. Since material accomplishments can never fully satisfy the soul’s deeper longing for eternal happiness, people continue chasing one desire after another without finding lasting peace. The illusion of complete independence keeps them bound to endless cycles of expectation and disappointment.Recognizing God as the ultimate doer does not make a person passive. Rather, it encourages responsible action combined with humility. One continues to work hard, make decisions, and pursue goals, but with the awareness that all abilities, opportunities, and results are gifts from a higher source. Such understanding brings balance to life. It fosters gratitude during success and patience during adversity.The wisdom of spiritual realization lies in understanding one’s true position. The soul is neither powerless nor supreme; it is a conscious participant in God’s creation. By surrendering pride and acknowledging divine guidance, a person can live with greater peace, purpose, and inner freedom. When God becomes the center of life, actions acquire deeper meaning, and the journey of existence moves steadily toward spiritual fulfillment and liberation.
