District Development Commissioner (DDC) Anantnag, Dr. Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat, today chaired a comprehensive meeting to review the implementation of the ‘Gyan Bharatam Mission’, a national project aimed at the digital preservation of hand written texts, ancient manuscripts and centuries old historical documents.
The meeting was attended by CPO, ACD, DEPO, BDOs, EOs of MCs and other concerned officials.
During the meeting, the DDC emphasized that the mission’s core objective is to locate centuries-old handwritten texts and use modern technology to safeguard this wealth of knowledge for future generations.
To ensure the mission’s success, the DDC directed the officers to identify target groups like specific individuals, families, and institutions that are custodians of ancient records. He asked them to conduct field visits to villages, panchayats, municipal wards besides cultural, educational and religious institutions to identify and document rare texts. Focus on quality work and ensure all information collected is reliable, authentic, and well documented, he remarked.
The DDC stated that the district holds a rich intellectual history and it is the administration’s priority to preserve the ancient and historical documents. He urged all departments to work with a sense of urgency to bridge the gap between ancient heritage and the digital future.
The meeting concluded with a resolve by all officers to locate and collect the rich historical texts and age old manuscripts and to preserve their wealth of knowledge through use of technology for future generations.
