In a significant political development, several prominent community leaders, including Laxman Pradhan of the Boria Biradari and Vimal Dass, Pradhan of Juggi Mohalla from Qasim Nagar, along with their scores of supporters, joined the Congress Party in the presence of senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh member, Taranjit Singh Tony in Sanjay Nagar, Jammu.
Welcoming them into the party fold, Tony said that the growing support for Congress is a clear indication that people are fed up with the BJP’s misrule and hollow promises. He lashed out at the BJP-led government at the Centre for “betraying the people’s mandate of the Jammu region over the last 10 years.” He said that despite making tall claims, the BJP has failed miserably to address even the basic issues of common people.
“Inflation is at an all-time high, youth are battling record unemployment, farmers are neglected, and the border dwellers still await permanent rehabilitation and safe shelters. BJP has used emotional slogans to grab votes but abandoned the public after elections,” Tony said.
The senior Congress leader further stated that the developmental slogans of BJP have turned out to be mere jumlas, as no major employment package, industrial investment, or farmer relief scheme has reached the ground in J&K. He also criticized the BJP for “destroying democratic institutions” and imposing a bureaucratic raj in the Union Territory, leaving people voiceless and frustrated.
Tony appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to support and strengthen the Congress Party, which, he said, has always stood by the aspirations of the people and worked for inclusive growth, secularism, and safeguarding the democratic ethos of the nation.
The newly-inducted members expressed their full faith in the leadership of the Congress and said the BJP’s anti-people policies have pushed the working-class and marginalized communities to the wall. They announced that in the coming weeks, a convention will be organized where hundreds of their workers will also join the Congress, sending a clear message that BJP’s bluff has been exposed.
The joining of biradari leaders from key areas like Qasim Nagar is being seen as a major boost for Congress at the grassroots level, as the public sentiment steadily turns against the BJP ahead of the upcoming Panchayat and ULB elections.
