Brigadier PS Cheema, SM, VSM, the Group Commander of Jammu Group NCC, visited the Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) organized by the 5 J&K NCC Battalion at the NCC Training Academy in Nagrota. The camp, running from October 4 to 13, 2024, hosts 500 cadets and is aimed at enhancing their skills, leadership abilities, and sense of discipline.
Upon his arrival, Brig Cheema was honored with an impressive Guard of Honour, symbolizing the high respect in which he is held by both the cadets and staff at the camp. His visit started with interactions with the camp’s training staff and Associate NCC Officers (ANOs). Brig Cheema emphasized the critical role of the instructors in shaping the cadets, who are considered the future leaders of the country. He highlighted the responsibility of the staff in providing not just technical training, but also the values of leadership, integrity, and patriotism.
During his visit, Brig Cheema addressed the participants of the Permanent Instructor Orientation Cadre, a group of instructors who have recently joined the NCC. He encouraged them to embrace their responsibilities fully and maintain the high standards expected within the NCC.
The instructors are tasked with guiding and mentoring cadets through the various stages of their training, and Brig Cheema emphasized the importance of setting a strong example for the young cadets.
The Brigadier also interacted with cadets from different battalions who are preparing for national and international events. Among these are the prestigious Best Cadet competition and the Youth Exchange Programme, where selected cadets represent India in exchanges with friendly foreign countries. Brig Cheema’s message to the cadets focused on the importance of dedication, teamwork, and commitment to excellence.
His motivational words encouraged the cadets to work hard and aim for success in their future endeavors.
A notable part of Brig Cheema’s visit was his review of the ongoing shooting practice sessions. Cadets at the camp are preparing to compete at the national level in the GV Mavlankar Shooting Competition, a prestigious event that tests their marksmanship. Brig Cheema commended their efforts and encouraged them to maintain their focus and determination.
In addition to his interactions with the cadets and staff, Brig Cheema took the opportunity to inspect the renovation work at the Cookhouse, which serves as the kitchen facility for the NCC Training Academy during such camps. He emphasized the importance of providing quality meals to the cadets, stating that good nutrition is essential for their well-being and effective training.
Addressing the cadets at the end of his visit, Brig Cheema remarked, “The values instilled during your training will guide you in every aspect of life. Stay focused, work hard, and aim high.” His words resonated with the cadets, who left inspired and motivated to continue their journey in the NCC with renewed enthusiasm.
The Combined Annual Training Camp, under Brig Cheema’s guidance, aims to provide cadets with valuable life skills, preparing them not only for competitions but also for future roles as responsible citizens and leaders of the nation.
