The persistent and widespread issue of drug abuse has posed a serious threat to the social fabric of Jammu and Kashmir. Over the years, the Union Territory has witnessed a surge in drug-related crimes, affecting the lives of individuals and families. In response to this growing menace, law enforcement agencies, community leaders, and concerned citizens have joined forces to wage a collective battle against the scourge of narcotics. Recent developments indicate that the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir are actively intensifying their efforts to combat the drug menace. The law enforcement agencies, particularly the J&K Police, have taken proactive measures to identify and apprehend those involved in drug peddling and trafficking. The focus on disrupting the supply chain of illicit substances is a crucial aspect of these efforts. Baramulla Police has taken stringent action by registering 24 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. A total of 39 arrests have been made, including three hard-core drug peddlers who have been booked under the Prevention of Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) and the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Baramulla district. The law enforcement agency has not only apprehended individuals involved in drug peddling but has also successfully confiscated contraband substances valued at Rs 15.46 lakhs. This decisive action reflects the commitment of Baramulla Police to curb the illicit drug trade, safeguarding the community from the detrimental impact of narcotics. While the battle against the drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir is ongoing, recent successes and the commitment demonstrated by various stakeholders signal a positive shift. However, it is crucial to maintain momentum and continuously adapt strategies to stay ahead of evolving tactics employed by those involved in the illegal drug trade. As we collectively strive for a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir, it is imperative to strengthen partnerships between law enforcement, community organizations, and individuals. Through shared determination, vigilance, and education, we can overcome the drug menace, paving the way for a healthier and more prosperous future for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
