Senior BJP leader and former Minister Priya Sethi today strongly advocated for the implementation of the “One Nation, One Election” initiative, emphasizing that it will bring stability, reduce election-related expenditures, and ensure seamless governance across the country. Speaking at a programme organized in Jammu, she underscored the importance of this transformative reform, particularly in the context of Jammu and Kashmir. Several prominent figures, including MLA Bahu Constituency Vikram Randhawa, District President South Naresh Singh, Mandal President Nitesh Mahahan, Chief Patron Ashok Gupta, Chief Advisor Shubchander Verma, President RC K S Samyal, Vice President TP Puri, and former District President Rekha Gupta, marked their presence at the event.
Priya Sethi elaborated on the numerous advantages of conducting simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies, stating that this approach would streamline the electoral process and prevent frequent disruptions in governance. She pointed out that holding separate elections at different intervals imposes a significant financial burden on the economy and diverts the government’s attention from essential developmental work. “Frequent elections put a financial strain on the economy and hinder the smooth execution of welfare schemes. ‘One Nation, One Election’ is a visionary step towards efficiency and stability, ensuring that governments focus on policy-making and long-term planning rather than being in a perpetual election mode,” she remarked.
Addressing the significance of this initiative in the context of Jammu and Kashmir, Priya Sethi emphasized that the region has witnessed prolonged political instability due to frequent elections and fragmented governance. She argued that implementing this reform would provide much-needed continuity in governance, allowing developmental projects to be executed without unnecessary delays. “J&K has suffered due to its fragmented political processes, which often lead to administrative inefficiencies. With ‘One Nation, One Election,’ we can ensure that developmental projects are completed without interruptions, bringing lasting benefits to the people,” she stated.
The senior BJP leader further emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for electoral reforms is in the national interest, as it would enhance voter participation, bring uniformity to the electoral cycle, and strengthen democracy. She noted that simultaneous elections would lead to a more accountable and efficient government, which is essential for a progressive India. “By conducting elections at the same time, we will foster a governance structure that is focused on the long-term progress of the nation rather than being constantly engaged in electoral battles,” she added.
Calling upon all political parties to support this initiative, Priya Sethi asserted that electoral reforms should be seen beyond political affiliations, as they serve the larger interest of the nation. She reiterated that “One Nation, One Election” is a crucial step towards realizing the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” and will pave the way for a new era of governance, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir.
