‘THE – SARA’ Conducts Awareness Program on Menstrual Hygiene

In a significant effort to spread awareness on menstrual health and hygiene, a registered non-governmental organization ‘THE – SARA’, under ‘Health is Wealth’ initiative through ‘Safe Periods 365’ initiative conducted awareness program at Shaheed Naib-Subedar Parshotam Kumar Govt. High School Majua Uttami in Bishnah zone of Jammu district. During the program Ms. Minakshi Sharma, In-charge of ‘Safe Periods 365’ initiative and field volunteer with ‘THE – SARA’ conducted awareness session for the girl students, their mothers and ex female PRI Members. Awareness session focused on the importance of menstrual health and hygiene in their life, break the stigma surrounding menstruation, and provide practical knowledge on maintaining good hygiene during menstruation.
Students and their mothers were also given opportunity to ask questions, dispelling myths and misconceptions about menstruation that have been prevalent in the society. On the occasion student interns from IUST Awantipora Kashmir and NMIMS Mumbai were also present and provided on field support in successful conduct of the program.
“Our aim is to empower our girl students with the knowledge they need to manage their menstrual health confidently,” said Ms. Gurjeet Kour President of ‘THE – SARA’. At the end of the program, Team ‘THE – SARA’ distributed sanitary pads among twenty five girl students of the menstruating age in the presence of in-charge headmaster of the school Sh. Yaseen Ahmed and teachers of the school. Sh. Yaseen Ahmed thanked members of ‘THE – SARA’ for providing continuous support to the girl students.
It is pertinent to mention to tackle ‘period poverty’ and spread awareness about menstrual health and hygiene among the school girls across UT’s of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh ‘THE – SARA’ is carrying out ‘Safe Periods 365’ initiative.
