A one-day refresher training program for Part-Time Enumerators (PTEs) under the Sample Registration System (SRS) was conducted at Boys Higher Secondary School Doda.
The program, organized by the Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner India, aimed to enhance the skills and efficiency of enumerators in collecting reliable data on birth rate, death rate, infant mortality rate, and other fertility and mortality indicators. The Sample Registration System, operational since 1971, is a vital tool for providing data on fertility and mortality trends at both state and national levels. In the districts of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban, 21 sample units have been established under SRS, contributing to accurate statistical analysis. The program focused on strengthening the enumerators’ proficiency and highlighted the importance of precision in data collection to ensure effective policy-making and planning. The training was led by Assistant Director Balbir Singh and Assistant Director Jatinder Kumar from the Directorate of Census Operations, Jammu & Kashmir.
They emphasized the critical role of PTEs in compiling accurate data for vital statistics, which are indispensable for demographic studies, healthcare planning, and resource allocation. Additionally, participants were trained on advanced techniques and protocols for data verification, ensuring the credibility of the collected information.
This initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the SRS and improving the overall quality of data collected. The refresher program is a step forward in promoting informed decision-making, supporting developmental policies, and addressing public health challenges. By fostering the expertise of PTEs, the Census Operations Directorate reaffirms its dedication to delivering high-quality data for sustainable development.
