Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony, has strongly urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to ensure that all government departments extend formal invitations to local DDC representatives for official functions.
The senior Congress leader was speaking after inaugurating Rs 2.5 cr road project from Kaloyan to RS Pura here today.
The senior Congress leader expressed his disappointment with SKUAST University, which recently hosted a significant function attended by the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister but failed to invite local DDC members. He emphasized that as DDCs serve as the bridge between the administration and the people, excluding them from such functions is not only disrespectful but also undermines the essence of grassroots democracy.
Tony criticized SKUAST’s oversight, especially considering the university’s direct connection to farmers’ welfare—a domain where DDCs play a pivotal role in understanding and addressing local issues. “By neglecting to invite the local DDCs, SKUAST has sidelined the voices of the very people it seeks to serve.
This is unacceptable and needs immediate rectification,” Tony remarked.
The senior Congress leader appealed to the Chief Minister to issue clear instructions to all departments to ensure the inclusion of local DDCs in future official events. “Departments must recognize the importance of involving DDC representatives who have an in-depth understanding of ground realities. This will not only strengthen governance but also foster greater public trust,” he added.
Tony reiterated his commitment to representing the interests of his constituency and vowed to hold departments accountable for any lapses in coordination with grassroots representatives.
Speaking over todays eventml, Tony said that several road projects are in pipeline and the same will be taken up in a phased manner in near future in RS Pura.
