Up in arms against the Government order re-designating them as Need Based Teachers like daily wagers, contractual Lecturers appointed in the colleges on academic arrangement, held a strong protest demonstration. Shouting slogans and conveying their resentment against the Higher Education order 472-HE of 2019, dated 23-08-2019, they appealed the Governor to immediate revoke this controversial order, which restrains them from performing duties continuously. These lecturers, working on temporary basis in various Government Degree colleges, assembled near the Press Club Jammu and held a strong protest demonstration there. They alleged that the intention behind this controversial order was to adjust the candidates who have taken status quo in Kashmir Division and creating difficulties for them. “The Department of Higher Education is hatching the conspiracy for disengaging all of us from the jobs and our strength is approximately 2500 throughout the State of J&KI,” they said and alleged violation of their fundamental and human rights. They demanded that the appointments should be merit based as done earlier and Need Based Teachers system should not be implemented. They also opposed appointment of guest faculties in the colleges and re-engagement of retirees. They demanded that the salaries of Academic Arrangement teachers should be according to the Basic pay given in other States and Union Territories. The protesting lecturers sought attention of Governor Satya Pal Malik to their grievances and demands for immediate redressal of them same.
