Poonch, Oct 5
The Indian Army conducted a comprehensive medical camp in the remote areas of Jamia Dhok and Satharban in Poonch district, located near the Line of Control (LoC). These border regions face numerous health challenges, especially during winters when access to medical facilities becomes even more difficult due to the rugged terrain and lack of proper roads and infrastructure. The camp was organized as part of the Army’s ongoing outreach program, aimed at ensuring the well-being of the local population, or Awam, and their livestock.
A joint team of Indian Army doctors, including specialists, provided essential medical care, consultations, and counseling to the residents of these underserved areas. The camp witnessed a large turnout, with patients of all ages coming forward to receive medical attention. The Army’s initiative proved to be a lifeline for these communities, offering much-needed healthcare services right at their doorstep.
The doctors offered free medicines, including deworming treatments and Vitamin A supplements, crucial for preventing malnutrition and common illnesses. Additionally, immunization services were provided, particularly against tetanus, ensuring the community’s protection from this potentially fatal infection. The camp also included health check-ups for women, with hemoglobin (HB) tests conducted to identify cases of anemia, and blood pressure (BP) check-ups were carried out for patients over 30 years of age. Special focus was given to the medical needs of women and children, with a lady doctor attending to their specific health concerns.
In addition to medical treatments, the camp provided an educational platform to raise awareness about common health issues and prevention methods. The doctors took the opportunity to educate the local population on preventing communicable diseases, particularly eye infections, which are prevalent in the region. They also discussed various lifestyle diseases, such as hypertension and diabetes, which are becoming increasingly common in rural areas due to changing diets and habits. Beyond treating illnesses, the Indian Army’s initiative aimed to promote cleanliness, hygiene, and healthy living among the local residents. The medical professionals emphasized the importance of maintaining personal and community hygiene to prevent the spread of diseases, particularly in densely populated areas near the LoC. This holistic approach not only helped in addressing immediate health concerns but also fostered long-term health awareness in the community. The overwhelming gratitude of the locals was evident, with elders showering blessings on the medical staff for their efforts. The Army’s outreach through such medical camps continues to be a vital support system for the border communities, ensuring that healthcare is accessible even in the most remote regions.
