DOGRA HERALD BUREAU
VIJAYPUR, july 12
Apni Party Provincial President, Jammu, and Former Minister, S. Manjit Singh today demanded restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
The Former Minister raised the demand for statehood restoration in a meeting at ward number 4 in Panchayat Vijaypur Kothi that was organized by retired Capt. Joginder Lal, and youth leader, Shubam.
During the meeting, the party leaders held a threadbare discussion regarding the existing issues confronted by the people in the absence of an elected Govt.
The people emphasized that the statehood should be restored to the Dogra state that has a glorious history. “The Union Govt should restore the statehood to Jammu and Kashmir without any further delay as it has given rise to the feeling of discontent and anger among the people in both the regions,” said S. Manjit Singh, addressing the meeting.
He said that Jammu and Kashmir has been downgraded after its bifurcation into two Union Territories.
“The downgrading of J&K into a Union Territory is not accepted by the people and hence, they have rejected the continuation of this status to a state that belongs to Dogra Maharajas,” he said.
Meanwhile, he hoped that the elections in Jammu and Kashmir would be held on time to restore democratic system and the lost confidence of the people. “For last several years, there has been no elected Govt in J&K whereas the administration failed to work as per the expectation of the people. The bureaucracy has no contact with the people, and the people also do not trust them,” he added.
Meanwhile, the developmental issues were also discussed in the meeting.
