To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Kargil victory and honor the valor and sacrifice of Indian soldiers, the Indian Army organized the Delta 5 Motorcycle Expedition. This significant event featured three teams, each consisting of eight motorcyclists, who embarked on their journey from different corners of the country: Dinjan in the North East, Dwarka in the West, and Dhanushkodi in the South on 12 Jun 2024.
These teams converged in Delhi, where they were joined by an additional team, uniting to pay tribute to the Kargil heroes. From Delhi, the unified team split into two groups, each taking different routes towards Gun Hill in Dras. One team traveled through the Zojila Pass, while the other navigated the Rohtang Pass, symbolizing the diverse yet united spirit of the nation.
The first team arrived at Udhampur on 3 Jul 2024. During their stay from 3 Jul to 6 Jul, the team engaged in various activities to honor the local community and veterans. They felicitated Veer Naris (war widows) and veterans of the Udhampur station, recognizing their immense contributions and sacrifices. Additionally, the team interacted with NCC cadets and students of the Army Public School Udhampur, sharing inspiring stories of bravery and emphasizing the importance of service to the nation.
On 6 Jul 2024, the Motorcycle Expedition was ceremoniously flagged off from Udhampur by Lt Gen Vijay B Nair, SM, Chief of Staff, Headquarters Northern Command. This event marked the continuation of their journey towards Gun Hill in Dras, carrying the spirit of the Kargil heroes with them. During the occasion, a separate Northern Command Motorcycle rally, comprising nine riders from the Dhruva Command, was also flagged off by the Chief of Staff. This rally will travel to Dras via the historic Mughal Route, joining the Delta 5 Indian Army Motorcycle Expedition at Srinagar for the final leg of the journey to Dras.
The Delta 5 Motorcycle Expedition is more than just a tribute; it is a moving symbol of the enduring legacy of the Kargil War heroes. As the riders journey through various parts of the country, they carry with them stories of bravery, dedication, and sacrifice, ensuring that the memory of the Kargil War heroes continues to inspire future generations. Their route takes them through diverse terrains and communities, each stop serving as a reminder of the unity and strength of the nation in honoring those who have served.
The Udhampur segment of the expedition highlighted the deep connection between the Indian Army and the local communities, fostering a sense of pride and gratitude among the people. The interactions with the Veer Naris, veterans, NCC cadets, and students underscored the importance of remembering and celebrating the contributions of the armed forces.
As the Delta 5 Motorcycle Expedition progresses towards Gun Hill in Dras, it stands as a testament to the Indian Army’s commitment to honoring its heroes and keeping their legacy alive.
The expedition not only commemorates a historic victory but also reinforces the values of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism that define the Indian Army.
