Sham Lal Gupta, Chairman of the Anti Crime Bureau (ACB) NGO, has commended the historic 59 percent voter turnout in the recent Baramulla Lok Sabha elections. This record participation is seen as a significant indicator of the citizens’ strong support for democracy in the Kashmir Valley.
Expressing his pride, Gupta lauded the people of Baramulla for their active involvement in the democratic process. He noted that this high level of engagement marks a dramatic shift from the past, when the region was often marred by election boycotts, stone-pelting, and strikes.
“The impressive voter turnout of 59 percent in Baramulla showcases the people’s unwavering commitment to democracy,” said Gupta. “It signifies a new era in Kashmir’s political landscape, where citizens are now enthusiastically exercising their democratic rights.”
Gupta credited this positive transformation to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under whose administration the region has seen substantial progress and stability. He highlighted that PM Modi’s initiatives and policies have been crucial in reshaping the socio-political environment of Kashmir.
“Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, we’ve witnessed a significant reduction in violence and disruption. The era of boycotts, stone-pelting, and strikes has ended, paving the way for peace and development. This historic voter turnout reflects the confidence and trust that the people of Kashmir have in PM Modi’s leadership,” Gupta added. Gupta also discussed the socio-economic benefits of the newfound stability, particularly its positive impact on tourism. He noted that Kashmir is now experiencing an influx of tourists, which is boosting the local economy and enhancing the region’s prosperity.
“The peaceful environment and the successful elections have made Kashmir a popular destination for tourists once again. This resurgence in tourism is a clear sign of the region’s return to normalcy and its potential for economic growth,” said Gupta.
Emphasizing the importance of ongoing democratic participation for the region’s development, Gupta called on all stakeholders to continue supporting the democratic process. He stressed the need for collective efforts to ensure the sustained progress of Jammu & Kashmir.
