Taranjit Singh Tony, General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee and DDC Suchetgarh, has denounced the BJP’s purported development agenda, branding it as nothing more than hollow promises. He exposed the BJP’s “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) agenda as mere rhetoric devoid of substance, highlighting the party’s failure to address critical issues such as unemployment, farmer distress, and women’s safety.
Under the BJP’s decade-long rule, Tony highlighted the failure to regularize the employment of impoverished daily wage earners. He emphasized the stark irony of BJP’s touted job creation initiatives, referring to “Rozgar Melas” as mere spectacles, akin to the shallow promise of entrepreneurial success through frying ‘pakoras’.
Speaking at the public meeting at Suchetgarh today, the senior Congress leader lamented the BJP’s betrayal of India’s youth by reneging on their promise of generating 2 crore jobs annually, leaving educated youth disillusioned and unemployed. He condemned the BJP for propelling Jammu and Kashmir to the unenviable position of being the foremost state in unemployment.
Turning to the agrarian sector, Tony criticized the BJP’s failure to fulfill its commitment of doubling farmers’ incomes, asserting that instead of prosperity, farmers have been burdened with escalating doubling of their expenses in diesel, seeds, fertilizers, and labor. He highlighted the tragic reality of farmer suicides as a damning indictment of the Modi-led government’s policies.
Furthermore, Tony decried the BJP’s strategy of co-opting corrupt individuals from opposition parties, dubbing them the “Brashtachar Jodo Party”. He stressed that amidst the gloom cast by BJP’s governance, the Indian National Congress stands as the beacon of hope for unemployed youth, struggling farmers, and women facing a surge in crimes against them.
In a fervent appeal to the people of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, Tony called for support and prayers for the grand success of the candidates of the INDI Alliance in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. He urged citizens to cast their votes wisely, recognizing the Congress-led coalition as the true vehicle for progress, prosperity, and justice for all.
