Says coercive action against journalists not a new phenomenon in West Bengal

M.K Ajatshatru Singh, a senior BJP leader and former minister, expressed profound concern over the recent incident of attack on media freedom in West Bengal.
The incident occurred on Monday evening when a TV journalist reporting on the Sandeshkhali horrors was taken away by the West Bengal Police.
In a statement released here today, M.K Ajatshatru Singh firmly denounced the prevention of journalists from reporting on the atrocities committed against women in a state led by a woman Chief Minister. He emphasized that coercive action against journalists is not a new phenomenon in West Bengal.
“The stifling of freedom of expression in West Bengal is deeply regrettable and constitutes a threat to democracy, he said remarked that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government is disregarding constitutional norms and concealing the truth. He further added that it is deeply alarming that those responsible for the atrocities against women are being protected while the media is being silenced under the leadership of a woman Chief Minister.
M.K Ajatshatru Singh called upon the West Bengal government to uphold the values of freedom of expression and allow journalists to carry out their duties without fear or intimidation.
He emphasized the importance of transparency in addressing the safety concerns faced by women under the current administration.
He emphasized that the significance of protecting democratic principles and ensuring that the voices of journalists are not suppressed. He urged the authorities in West Bengal to take immediate action to restore media freedom and uphold the values of democracy.
