Dogra Law College, known for its commitment to legal education and social awareness, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Literary Club organized a thought-provoking Guest Lecture on NDPS Act, 1985.
The lecture, held on 13 Feb, focused on providing an overview of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act), a critical piece of legislation in India’s fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
The event featured Subash Gupta, a distinguished retired Session Judge and former member of the Public Service Commission of Jammu and Kashmir, as the esteemed resource person. Mr. Gupta’s vast experience and profound understanding of legal matters added immense value to the discussion. The session commenced with an engaging introduction by Pariha Zafar, a diligent student of B.A LL.B 5 years, 5th semester at Dogra Law College, who skillfully navigated the proceedings as the host. As a token of appreciation for Mr. Gupta’s presence and insights, a shawl was presented to him by the college authorities.
Principal, Professor, Avdhesh Pratap, then welcomed Mr. Gupta, highlighting the importance of understanding the NDPS Act in today’s societal context. Mr. Gupta’s lecture delved into the key articles and provisions of the NDPS Act, emphasizing its role in regulating and controlling narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. He shed light on Article 8, which deals with punishment for contravention in relation to manufactured drugs and preparations, and Article 20, which addresses the punishment for contravention in relation to psychotropic substances. The lecture provided a comprehensive understanding of the legal framework governing narcotics and psychotropic substances, including provisions related to possession, production, and trafficking. Attendees actively participated in a stimulating question-and-answer session, seeking clarity on various aspects of the Act and its enforcement. The guest lecture on the NDPS Act, organized by Dogra Law College served as a significant platform for promoting legal awareness and fostering dialogue on crucial societal issues. Such initiatives play a vital role in equipping future legal professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute meaningfully to society’s well-being. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Danish Tak, another diligent student of B.A LL.B 5 year, 5th semester.
Tak expressed gratitude to Mr. Gupta for his invaluable insights and to all participants for their active engagement. The gathering then reverently stood for the rendition of the national anthem, symbolizing unity and patriotism.
