- India vs West Indies 2017: Here’s the full schedule, squads, and timings for the upcoming India’s tour of West Indies which includes five ODIs and one-off T20I.
After failing to cross the final hurdle in the ICC Champions Trophy, Virat Kohli’s men will make their next stop against West Indies for five One-Day Internationals and one-off T20I series this month. Team India was outplayed by traditional rivals Pakistan in the final of the Champions Trophy at The Oval by a whopping margin of 180 runs.
India’s tour of Caribbean islands will begin with five match One-day series which will commence on 23rd June at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. Due to poor ranking points, West Indies missed out on the Champions Trophy qualification for the first time. West Indies recently finished 3-match ODI series with Afghanistan on their homeland which ended with 1-1 (final match being abandoned due to rain). Earlier, they defeated the talented Afghans by 3-0 in the Twenty20I series.
For the first two ODIs against India which will be played in Port of Spain, Trinidad, the hosts have named an unchanged squad (which faced Afghanistan). Pacer Shanon Gabriel has not been included in the squad as he is undergoing a rehabilitation for an injury.
Meanwhile, the visiting the Indian team has announced a 15-man squad. Senior opener Rohit Sharma has been advised rest for the tour of West Indies while talented wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant and chinaman Kuldeep Yadav have been named.
Both Rishabh and Kuldeep were in stand byes for the Champions Trophy and it was only a fair call by the selection committee led by MSK Prasad to try the two youngsters against a weaker international side.
The other significant development is that Anil Kumble has agreed to go to the West Indies.
