Director Agriculture, Jammu Ram Savak today inaugurated a two day Conference on Agriculture Development at Agriculture Office Kathua in presence of Chief Agriculture Officer Kathua Sanjeev Rai Gupta.
Speaking on occasion the Director Agriculture said, “Department of Agriculture is organizing various events to mobilize, encourage, motivate the farming community and aspiring young entrepreneurs in the field of Agriculture and allied sectors. He said the farming community should take full advantage of the opportunity to enhance their income thereby uplifting their livelihood”.
Vice Chairman, DDC Kathua Raghunandan Singh, also spoke on the occasion. He appealed farmers to avail all the benefits of tailor made schemes of the Agriculture department which suits well to the agro-climatic conditions of the plain, kandi and hilly areas of the district.
CAO Kathua deliberated upon various schemes implemented by the department like Mushroom cultivation, Apiculture development shall be taken up as enterprise to enhance the income. He also said Holistic Agriculture Development Program has helped farming community in availing online benefits of various schemes and components such as farm mechanization, mushroom cultivation, apiculture development, Exotic vegetable cultivation, alternate agriculture development, Niche crops development, rain-fed area development and generating irrigation sources in the agriculture field. About 150 farmers from Kathua district attended the Conference and gained insights from the team comprising Dr. Vishal Mahajan, Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Dr. Anamika Jamwal, Sr. Scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kathua. Among others District Agriculture Officers (Ext.) Kathua Murari Lal, Area Development Officer (Veg) Kathua, Ashok Sarmal, Mushroom Development Officer, Kathua Ashwani Sharma and other staff of the Agriculture Department were also present.
