A delegation comprising former employees of Jammu and Kashmir Minerals Ltd. and All India Backward Classes Federation J&K Unit met with Senior BJP leader and MP, Rajya Sabha, Er. Gulam Ali Khatana, to address pressing concerns related to their employment and welfare.
Among the prominent demands raised by the ex-employees were the arrears of the 6th Pay Commission and subsequent pay revisions, Cost of Living Allowance (COLA), and the prompt disbursement of 10 months’ salary as Coal Mines Provident Fund (CMPF) for Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS)/General Health Scheme (GHS) employees.
A delegation of All India Backward Classes Federation, J&K unit, headed by Mr. Mohd. Shabir Sambyal brought to the attention of MP Gulam Ali Khatana challenges faced by Other Backward Classes communities, namely Kumhars, Barbers, Washermen, and Telis, due to the inclusion of the word “Rural” in the central list of Other Backward Classes (OBCs). The deletion of this term has been recommended by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
The delegation emphasized that the inclusion of the word “Rural” has led to various issues for these communities, hindering their access to entitlements and opportunities. The Kumhars, barbers, washermen, and telis are grappling with challenges that directly impact their social and economic well-being.
MP Gulam Ali Khatana assured the delegations that he would actively engage with the concerned authorities to advocate for the resolution of these matters. He expressed his commitment to ensuring that the grievances of the ex-employees of Jammu and Kashmir Minerals Ltd. and the concerns raised by the All India Backward Classes Federation are addressed promptly and effectively.
