JKPCC General Secretary and DDC Suchetgarh Taranjit Singh Tony has raised concerns over the use of substandard materials in road construction projects, recommending blacklisting of contractors who are in indulged in corrupt practices and violating road constructing norms.
While starting the development work of paving the road in village Kotli Raiyan here today, the senior congress leader urged the Chief Engineer of the Road and Building Department to take stern action to address the issue and ensure that all roads are constructed using high-quality materials and adhere to strict construction standards.
Tony highlighted the stark contrast in the quality of roads constructed over different time periods. While some roads built two years ago remain in good condition, several roads constructed just six months ago have already deteriorated significantly. This alarming disparity raises serious questions about the quality of materials being used and the overall construction practices employed, he added.
He urged the Commissioner Secretary of the R&B Department to mandate the verification of road quality before bills are passed by the officers in charge.
This would ensure that if any road deteriorates within the first three years, the senior officer responsible is held accountable.
Additionally, he advised the Commissioner Secretary to implement a mechanism during the allocation of road contracts to prevent contractors from compromising road quality by reducing their tender costs during the bidding process.
He emphasized the need for stringent measures to ensure that contractors adhere to the prescribed quality standards. “Contractors who fail to maintain the required quality should be blacklisted,” he asserted. “We cannot tolerate any violation of norms in road construction projects.”
The senior Congress leader upon the Chief Engineer of the Road and Building Department to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and take appropriate action against those responsible for compromising the quality of road construction. He also urged the department to implement stricter monitoring and enforcement mechanisms to prevent such incidents from recurring.
“We must ensure that public funds are used judiciously and that the roads we construct are safe, durable, and serve the public for years to come,” he added.
Speaking over the development initiated today, Tony said that this was the long pending demand of the people of the village which met here today.
He said that after becoming a District Development Council member, he has continuously worked for the development of the area and today Suchetgarh block is top among all the blocks in terms of development. He said that all the promises made during the election days are being fulfilled on priority.
Among those who were present include former Sarpanch Rachpal Singh Gill, ex Naib Sarpanch Darshan Choudhary, Kala Choudhary, Bittu Choudhary and Darshan Lal Panch.
