DLS Doda organises orientation training programme on Leprosy

To raise awareness about prevention and treatment of Leprosy, the Zonal Leprosy Office DHS Jammu, in collaboration with District Leprosy Society Doda, on Thursday organised a day-long orientation programme for health workers and ASHAs here in theConference Hall CMO Office Doda.
Zonal Leprosy Officer DHS Jammu Dr Sushma Mattoo graced the training programme which was attended by health workers including MMPHWs, FMPHWs, MLHPs and ASHAs from Assar, Thathri and Gandoh block besides Yogeshwari Sharma, Budget & Finance Officer ZLO Jammu, Para Medical Supervisor, Surinder Bijyal and staff from Leprosy Ram Raj, Krishan Chand & Sajad Hussain were also present in the orientation training programme.
Dr Sushma Mattoo, the Resource Person, while speaking on the occasion, educated the participants about Leprosy disease and said that aim of holding orientation programme was to create awareness among health care workers and masses on Leprosy, to reduce stigma and discrimination in the community and for early detection of Leprosy cases in the District.
Dr. Mattoo sensitized the health staff including ASHAs that Leprosy is totally curable at all stages, exhorted them about finding such cases in their areas, so as to detect the disease at early stage, followed by timely treatment.
Further, she urged the participants to know the strategy to control Leprosy and also threw light on NLEP.
She said that highly effective treatment is available to cure leprosy adding that early detection and timely treatment and dosage are essential to eradicate leprosy. On this occasion, IEC material on Leprosy was also distributed among the participants.
Earlier in his welcome address, Surinder Bijyal underlined the objective of organizing the orientation programme and briefed the participants about Leprosy disease.
Meanwhile, the ZLO Jammu along with concerned staff of DLS Doda also visited HWC- Sub Centre Ramgarh in Medical Block Assar, where she distributed footwear and self care kits among the old Leprosy cases, besides generated awareness among the masses about Leprosy.
