An Army Cheetah helicopter crashed in the Tulail area of Gurez in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district this afternoon, killing the pilot and critically injuring the co-pilot, officials said.

The chopper crashed in the Gujran Nallah area in the Gurez Valley, following which a rescue operation was launched immediately, they said.

The co-pilot, in critical condition, is being treated at 92 Army Hospital, sources said.

The cause of the crash was not known immediately, officials said.

However, the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of Gurez said that communication with the Army chopper was lost. “We are ascertaining the details,” he said.
