All passengers arriving by commercial vehicles to be tested at Lakhanpur

Amid a surge in COVID positives as also detection of Omicron cases, the district administration Kathua today ordered mandatory testing of passengers arriving through commercial vehicles for COVID at Lakhanpur, the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir. In contrast, the UT today reported three casualties and 132 cases.

Ladakh reported ten new cases, after which the district Kargil administration ordered strict night curfew in Kargil from 9 pm to 6 am.

All three COVID casualties were recorded in the Kashmir division, where 105 new cases were registered while 27 cases were reported from the Jammu region.

In view of an upsurge in COVID-19 cases and a few Omicron cases, District Magistrate Rahul Yadav today ordered that all passengers travelling through buses, cabs, taxis, and tempo travellers shall have to undergo Rapid Antigen Test for COVID-19 compulsorily at Lakhanpur irrespective of their vaccination status.

“The Nodal Officer Lakhanpur will ensure at least 30 per cent RTPCR sampling of incoming passengers,” Yadav said.

Today, Deputy Commissioner Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve ordered a strict night curfew in Kargil from 9 pm to 6 am. In addition, he directed that all non-essential travel/services shall be prohibited after 9 pm in the district.

The directions came following a fresh surge in COVID cases in Kargil as out of 10 positives in Ladakh today, six were reported from Kargil and four in Leh district.

Ladakh has 196 COVID active, positive cases, including 151 in Leh and 45 in Kargil.
