An Army jawan deployed at a forward post along the Line of Control in Balakote area of Mendhar sector shot dead a Junior Commissioned Officer of his unit today.
Official sources said that after a tiff with Subedar Jasbir Singh over some issue, Sepoy Laxminarayan, in a fit of anger, took out his service rifle and fired on his senior, causing him serious bullet injuries.
While jawan was overpowered by other Armymen who snatched his rifle, the critically injured Subedar was rushed to Brigade Hospital at Bhimber Gali, where he was declared as brought dead. The police have registered a criminal case in this connection. The jawan has also been arrested for the offence.
After the postmortem, the JCO’s body was handed over to the 15 Raj Rifles unit officers. The Army has also ordered a court of inquiry into the incident.
