Government Women’s PG College Gandhinagar has now been named after Padmashree Padma Sachdev, the first modern poetess of the Dogri language. On Wednesday, Mayor of Municipal Corporation Jammu Chandra Mohan Gupta inaugurated the name. Padma Sachdev’s family members and others, who reached the program, raised slogans of Padma Sachdev immortal. Her poems written in Dogri and Hindi were recited by the students.
According to the information, recently, the government had decided to change the names of the institutions after the martyrs and great personalities. Under this, Gandhinagar College has been renamed Padma Sachdev, and she has been honoured. Principal Sangeeta Nagri said that in the program organized in the college, relatives of Padma Sachdev and her family members from Mumbai also joined the virtual turn.
The girls remembered the modern poetess of the first Dogri language of the state through her songs and poems. Padma Sachdev is recognized as a poet and writer. Apart from Dogri, she used to write in Hindi also. She received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1971 for ‘Meri Kavita Mere Geet’.
