Another Encounter Underway, 1 Terrorist Killed in Shopian

One terrorist was killed on Tuesday in a fresh encounter, which broke out between the security forces and terrorists in the Feeripora area of Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir.

Police sources said that based on reliable sources, a joint team of SOG, Army’s 34 RR and CRPF started the search operation as soon as they laid siege to Feripora. The terrorists hiding in the area started firing on them. At first, the security forces allowed the hiding terrorists to surrender, but when they refused to lay down their weapons, they fired in retaliation. At present, the process of firing is going on from both sides. Internet service has been suspended in the area as a precaution. Additional security forces have also been called to cordon off the terrorists.

This is the fifth encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Kashmir Valley in the last 34 hours. So far, five terrorists have been killed by the security forces in these encounters. All these terrorists belonged to The Resistance Front, another faction of Lashkar-e-Taiba. Among the terrorists killed were the killers of a Sumo driver and a resident of Bihar, a street vendor.
