REASI: With the aim to maintain peace and tranquility in the jurisdiction, police have registered two cases and cancelled registration of five gun licenses in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi, Shailendra Singh said here that nine notorious criminals, habitual offenders and history sheeters of district Reasi were identified who had on the pretext of self protection had managed Arms licenses from different districts including other than of their permanent residences, in their favour and few of them even kept upto three weapons and ammunition in their possession since years.
“Two of them were possessing fake licenses where as record of one license issued by SDM Mendhar has been reportedly destroyed in a fire,” he said adding that field report does not support any threat to them for which they need self protection, rather they are threat to the peace of society by possessing arms and ammunition. “Police teams swung into action by identifying these notorious criminals, prepared a fresh field report and approached the concerned District Magistrates with recommendations for cancellation from where these license were issued,” he said.
The top cop added that one Over Ground Worker (OGW) working for terrorists, Mohd Asghar of Jamslan, Mahore had also managed fake gun licence from district Udhampur in the year 1984. He remained involved in 2 FIR’s of harboring and murder. “When police approached DM Udhampur, it came to light that the record of his Gun license does not exist in the office of District Magistrate and he had managed a fake gun licence,” said Singh adding that in this regard cognizance has been taken and a case FIR registered against him in Police Station Mahore. Police immediately seized his illegally possessed Gun along with ammunition, he said. “After field reports of bullying and harassment of common people by these History Sheeter and notorious criminals, a written correspondence was made with District Magistrates of Poonch, Srinagar, Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi along with past conduct and current activities of these criminals and Recommended for cancellation of Arms licenses issued in favour of these criminals,” he said.
“During scrutiny of police reports of these Gun License holders, concerned District Magistrates found these cases fit for cancellation of Arms licenses issued in their favour,” he said adding that by continuous efforts against crime and criminals, Reasi Police unearthed two fake Gun Licenses and registered FIR’s, facilitated in cancellation of five Gun Licenses and perusing in two more cases for cancellation.
Singh conveyed that verification of all Gun Licenses issued from outside Reasi is also going on by district police to unearth fake Gun Licenses if any in the district used for possessing Arms by any person.
