JAMMU: An ace fencer from Jammu, Shreya Gupta represented India in World Fencing Championships in junior and cadet categories, concluded at Cairo, Egypt on April 11.
It is pertinent to mention here that she got maximum points for India in junior team sabre category during the championship against their opponents representing Brazil. She has qualified for both the categories in the above mentioned tournament on the basis of her individual Bronze medal secured in Junior National Fencing Championship held at Rudarpur and last year Gold medal clinched in National Championship.
“It was a great experience and honour to participate and compete with top fencers of the world,” said Shreya Gupta after participating in World Championship and gave credit of her achievement to better infrastructure provided by the India to their fencers as well as specialised coaching facilities provided to her by foreign coaches during the championship. Shreya Gupta had won medal in Commonwealth Championship.
She is a recipient of J&K Award namely Sher-e-Kashmir Sports Award and S Rangil Singh Award for excellence in sports. She thanked Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhut Gul and Adhoc Committee of J&K Amateur Fencing Association for encouragement and support.
