The birth anniversary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee is being celebrated today. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla paid tributes to Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his birth anniversary in Central Hall of Parliament . In a tweet he said ,The great nationalist who favored the nation’s unity, gave a humble floral wreath in the central hall of the Parliament House on the birth anniversary of the highly revered Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. Syama Prasad Mookerjee was born on July 6 in 1901. Mookerjee was a lawyer and academician before joining politics in pre-Independence era. Syama Prasad Mookerjee founded Jana Sangh in 1951. It remained in existence till its merger with the Janata Party in 1977. It was rechristened as the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1980.
