First ever laprascopic cancer surgery performed in GMC Kathua

JAMMU: Under patronage of Principal GMC Kathua, Dr Anjali Nadir Bhat, GMC Kathua achieved another milestone in providing quality healthcare.

Department of Surgery, led by Dr Raj Rishi Sharma, HoD and assisted by Dr Ranjeet Rathore, Dr Anil Gupta and Dr Manmeet Kour performed first ever laprascopic assisted colorectal cancer surgery. Sixty year old male patient, who was diagnosed case of Recto sigmoid growth after thorough work up underwent Lap assisted anterior resection with complete mesorectal excision. The advantage of the procedure is that in single sitting complete removal of the cancerous growth and end to end anastomoses was done laparoscopically and avoided the morbidity of end colostomy and patient will have short and uneventful postoperative course.

The procedure was possible with the support of Department of Anesthesia led by Dr Rajesh Angral, Dr Ashufta Rasool and all OT staff members including Sandeep, Yogesh, Manjeet and Diksha.
