Jammu Boxing Meet commences at MA Stadium

JAMMU: Two days Jammu District Boxing Championship was declared open by Manger of J&K Sports Council, Satish Gupta in presence of general secretary J&K Amateur Boxing Association, Rajan Sharma at Boxing Ring MA Stadium.

The chief guest interacted with the young boxers and advised them to take part in the game by following the Government guidelines and other safety measures. “This time, it was decided by the organising committee not to allow National level boxers in the District Championship with sole aim to encourage young talent. However, everyone will get a chance to compete in the upcoming J&K level Championship,” informed Rajan Sharma. JKSC Boxing coach Anil Wadhera was the head of the technical panel, whereas Harinder Singh (JU), Pardeep Sharma (Army), Arif Mohd and Vinod Bhardwaj were among the technical panel.

In semi-finals matches of senior category (52-56 kg), Ajay Singh beat Akash Kumar and Gurjant trounced Satish Chouhan, whereas in 56-60 kg, Vikrant Manhas defeated Ankush Gangla and Mahesh Kumar got better of Aman Bhau and in 60-63 kg, Harish Gabgotra defeated Danish Kumar besides Nikhil Khajuria beat Ranyodh Charak and Shubham Mehra trounced Bishesh Sharma in 63-69 kg category. In quarter-finals (63-69 kg), Ranyodh Charak got better of Abhay Deol, while Nikhil Khajuria trounced Ankush Thakur, whereas in 52-56 kg, Akash Kumar defeated Rohit Kumar and 56-60 kg, Vikrant Manhas beat Abhijeet Bamotra. In semi-finals of youth category (56-60 kg), Satyam Khajuria got better of Arun Singh Katoch, whereas in 52-56 kg, Abhay Jatin beat Sunil and Mayank Chettri defeated Tarun besides in quarter-finals (52-56 kg), Jatin beat Abhay Kumar, whereas 46-49 kg, Maan Singh got walkover Arun Mehra and Piyush Dabgotra trounced Krishna.

Meanwhile, two-day District Poonch Boxing Championship today culminated with well attended prize distribution function at Boxing Ring Sports Stadium, Poonch.
