After a number of states across the country reported the bird flu cases, Director Animal Husbandry Department (AHD) Jammu Vivek Sharma said as such no unusual mortality or sickness among the migratory birds or other poultry birds in the J&K have been noticed so far and the situation is being monitored round the clock.

The department has sounded an alert and started collecting samples to check the health of winged guests flocking to the Gharana Wetland Conservation Reserve along the International Border in Jammu division,” Sharma said. She told that she herself along with Dr DD Dogra, Deputy Director Poultry and a team of doctors from the Research and Production Laboratory (DDR&P), Jammu visited the Gharana Wetland and collected samples but in the analysis no unusual mortality or sickness among the migratory birds in the area have been noticed.

The Director said the field functionaries of the department have been asked to keep a constant vigil in and around the area and report immediately any sort of unnatural deaths of migratory birds as well as other poultry birds of the area or elsewhere.

They have also been advised to make the general public aware about the zoonotic importance of Avian influenza (bird-flu) infecting poultry, she added.
