DGP sanctions financial assistance to COVID-19 affected police personnel

In its efforts to provide financial assistance to the police personnel who were infected by COVID-19 pandemic during the prevailing pandemic, the Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh has sanctioned over Rs 6 lakh relief in favour of 128 personnel as a welfare measure. Soon after the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, Police Headquarters issued a circular for providing financial assistance to its COVID affected personnel. The circular reads that novel Corona virus has engulfed by and large the whole world. The deadly virus has taken thousands of lives all around the world and is still continent it havoc endlessly. The Union Territory of J&K is also reeling under the pandemic. Every possible effort is being made to contain the spread of this deadly virus. The circular further reads that the Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel without caring for themselves are on the forefront to contain its spread by ensuring strict implementation of guidelines/advisories issued by the Government from time to time. Despite precautionary measures a number of police personnel were tested COVID positive. The J&K Police standby such warriors and their families in this situation. It further reads that although there is no provision in vogue, however under these extraordinary circumstances of health crisis, it has been enjoined that all DDOs shall ensure to extend financial assistance as a welfare measure for such personnel in shape of welfare relief depending on the virus load, as also welfare loan (refundable) of rupees one lakh can be availed by the COVID +ve on willingness to be provided by the Police headquarters on specific recommendation of the DDOs. Under this circular, the DGP Dilbag Singh today granted Rs 5,000 each in favour of 128 Police personnel who have been affected by COVID-19 at different district headquarters while working day in and day out for ensuring that the spread of COVID-19 is restricted. The financial assistance has been sanctioned out of the Police Pariwar Fund. Among those who have been granted financial assistance, 11 police personnel are posted in district Budgam, 8 in Baramulla, 3 in Awantipora, 7 in Kulgam, 39 at PHQ, 1 each in Ganderbal, Traffic City Srinagar and GRP railway Jammu and 57 personnel from different units of IRP and JKAP. Pertinent to mention here, that besides ensuring implementation of directives issued time to time by the Government in view of COVID-19, Jammu and Kashmir in Police in association with Health Department in first of its kind in Jammu and Kashmir launched Plasma Donation campaign to help the COVID-19 affected persons. Under this campaign a number of police personnel who recovered from COVID19 donated their blood plasma voluntarily.
