The Week-long ‘Gandagi Mukt Bharat’ campaign today culminated in district Ramban which was started on August 8, coinciding with the Quit India Movement call by Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi against the British rulers in the year 1942. On the final day, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Nazim Zai Khan launched a plantation drive in and around the District Administrative Complex and emphasised on keeping the Ramban town neat, clean and green. He appealed to all the residents of the town in particular and people of the district as a whole to conduct social service on a self-help basis in their respective surroundings to mark ‘Gandagi Mukt Bharat’. Divisional Forest Officer, Ramban, Rajan Singh, DPO Sunil Buthyal and other concerned were present on the occasion. During the Gandagi Mukt Bharat campaign various events were conducted across the district by the Rural Development and Panchyati Raj department in coordination with other concerned departments including e-Ratri Chaupal through various social media platforms which was attended by the BDC Chairpersons, ACD, Zameer Ahmed Rishu, DPO, BDOs, Sarpanchies and Panches in their respective blocks. Collection and segregation of single use plastic, Sharamdaan in Panchayats to clean public buildings, online Painting and essay writing competitions for students of different education zones were held. A mega plantation drive was also conducted by RDD in collaboration with the Forest department across the district under which over 3500 saplings of different species were planted by the volunteers with the active participation of PRIs and the general public to enhance green cover in the district. A special cleanliness and sanitation drive was also conducted to maintain hygienic conditions in several health institutions of the district.
