Trucker arrested with 49 kgs cannabis valuing Rs 2.3 cr

Jammu Wing of Crime Branch-Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) arrested a trucker along with 49 kgs cannabis valuing Rs 2.3 crores. Addressing a press conference, SP Vinay Sharma said that on specific information about smuggling of narcotics from Kashmir to Punjab, the sleuths of ANTF led by Inspector Parvez Sajjad laid a naka near Batra Hospital and signaled a truck bearing registration number PB13AF-1246 to stop for checking. On seeing cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but the cops chased and intercepted the truck, SP added. During checking, the cops recovered 49 kilograms of cannabis concealed in specially fabricated cavity in the truck, SP said, adding that the driver of the vehicle identified as Gurbaksh Singh, son of Singara Singh of Lohara Ludhiana Punjab was arrested. SP further informed that the seized consignment was of high grade, which has international cost of approximately Rs 2.3 crores, adding that the consignment was been taken to Nasik Maharashtra. This is one of the largest catch of cannabis in recent times in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, SP Vinay Sharma informed. He added that ANTF is investigating further details of forward and backward linkages of this inter-state racket and more arrests are expected in near future.
