Food Safety wing of Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), Jammu conducted a 5-day long special inspection drive of food establishments dealing with milk and milk products, fruits and vegetable, and grocery items in both Municipal limits as well as rural areas of Jammu and challaned 12 establishments for violation of FSSA guidelines. The Food Safety team of Municipal limit was headed by Dr Parvesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety Jammu and comprising of Food Safety Officers namely Ajay Khajuria, Daleep Singh, Pervaiz Ahmed and Sabha Rasool. The main objective of the drive was to make sure that food business operators are serving hygienic, non-adulterated and standardized food articles to the customers. During the drive, 88 food establishments in Jammu City were inspected and nine violators were challaned under unhygienic and other contraventions of Food Safety & Standards Act (FSSA) 2006, Rules & Regulations made there under. Amongst challaned were Choudhary Milk Products Shastri Nagar, Chib Sweets Nanak Nagar, Choudhary Milk Products Nanak Nagar, Spicy Grills Trikuta Nagar, Sita Ram Veg & Fruit Shop Trikuta Nagar, Manoj Kumar Veg & Fruit Shop Trikuta Nagar, Aditya Milk Products Paloura, Super Speciality Hospital Canteen Bakshi Nagar and Krishan Milk Shop Shanti Nagar, Janipur. More than 11 samples of milk, spices and coffee sachets were lifted and sent to food testing laboratory Jammu for analysis. Further while maintaining social distancing, shop to shop awarenesss were provided to all the shopkeepers and workers dealing with food articles regarding wearing of masks, techniques of hand washing and above all by maintaining personal hygiene and sanitation of infrastructure and surroundings. Meanwhile, the Food Safety team of Jammu Rural headed by Dev Dutt Sharma, Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Jammu Rural, inspected 82 food establishments. It also lifted 34 samples of different food stuffs and sent to the food testing laboratory for analysis. The team also seized 560 kg of Ghee apprehended to be substandard and challaned three violators under the contraventions of FSSA 2006.
