Man feared dead as vehicle slips into Chenab river

A man is feared dead after his vehicle slipped into the Chenab river from the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, here in Ramban district on Sunday.

The police said, “A truck, JK01P 0417, reportedly slipped into Chenab river from the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, at Duggipuli near Jaswal bridge in the wee hours of Sunday. The conductor of the truck, identified as Omar Ahmed of Qazigund, was found injured on the embankment of the river, while the driver, identified as Mohammad Shafi, is feared to have been washed away by the strong currents.” The injured was shifted to district hospital Ramban, while a search and rescue operation has been launched to trace the missing driver.

Meanwhile, a truck driver sustained injuries after his vehicle skidded off the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and plunged into Kunfer Nullah at Chanderkote area of Ramban district.

Police said, “A truck, JK03F 1882, en route to Srinagar from Jammu skidded from the road after the driver lost control over the vehicle. As a result, Sahid Ahmed of Acchabal, Anantnag, received critical injuries.” The injured was shifted to district hospital Ramban and police have registered a case.

Furthermore, five people sustained injuries in separate road accidents on the Thannamandi-Surankote road.

Police said, “On late Saturday evening, a car, JK12 8266, skidded off the road and rolled down a roadside slope. As a result, four people sustained injuries. They have been identified as Suriya Akhter, Asifa Koser, Kamran Hussain Shah and Abdul Hamied.”

The injured were shifted to Sub-District Hospital, Surankote.

In another accident, a Swift car, JK02BL 3818, plunged into the roadside fields near Manyal Gali on the Thannamandi-Surankote road on Sunday morning.

As a result, the driver sustained injuries. He was shifted to a local hospital, wherein he was provided medical aid.
