On the auspicious occasion of Purnima (full moon), Sadguru Shri Madhu Paramhans Ji Maharaj of the ‘Sahib Bandagi’ tradition, while blessing the congregation in Ranjri, Jammu, with his profound and nectar-like discourse, posed a question: Where do anger, greed, and lust originate within a human being? These are formidable and dangerous adversaries of the soul-adversaries that have shaken even the most formidable individuals. Just as gathering clouds obscure the light of the sun, these forces have engulfed the entire world, veiling the inherent light of the soul. All sinful acts in this world stem from five root causes: lust, anger, greed, attachment, and ego. But where do these five originate? We live in truly disturbing times; a two-year-old girl is raped and murdered. One must reflect: do such behaviors align with the nature of our soul? Great sages, meditators, and thinkers have described the soul beautifully-yet these acts are certainly not of the soul.
When these ‘demonic’ forces emerge, all of a person’s wisdom and meditative focus vanish. They exert a profound influence on the intellect-much like a malevolent spirit that takes possession of a person, suppressing their own conscious awareness. In this sense, these forces act as thieves and enemies; they enter through gateways so subtle that one remains entirely unaware of their arrival. When even highly accomplished individuals fall under the sway of lust, they find themselves completely powerless to resist; their entire intellect becomes corrupted. Although a person may feel remorse after committing such wrongs, the question remains: why did they act that way in the first place? It is because these forces cast a veil over the intellect, leaving the individual oblivious to what is happening. No one is immune to them-the evidence is all around us.
