India Women have been found wanting in T20 cricket, compared to how they have performed in the Test and the ODI formats. To help them buck up in the sport’s shortest version, a camp will be held at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru from August 3.
Yastika Bhatia, who made headlines with her century at Lord’s in India’s momentous Test win against England at the hallowed turf, and other prominent names like pacer Kranti Gaud and off-spinner Shreyanka Patil, and several India Women ‘A’ team cricketers are set to feature in the camp. The camp will also include sessions on improved fast bowling.
“Alongside a few India players like Yastika, Kranti and Shreyanka, almost the entire ‘A’ squad that had toured England (for three T20s and as many List A games that concluded earlier this month) are set to be a part of this camp to work on their T20 game. Together with them, a few targeted players will also be there,” a BCCI official told The Telegraph on Wednesday.
“Alongside helping the women cricketers improve their T20 skills, how they can do better in terms of fast bowling will be another important aspect of this camp. Initially, it’s going to be a two-week camp but can be extended as well if required.”
These camps are usually for the BCCI’s targeted players. On this occasion, though, the participation of a contracted player in the form of Yastika underlines its importance as it looks to delve into the reasons affecting their performance in T20s.
In this year’s Women’s T20 World Cup, India couldn’t even make the semi-finals, losing to Australia.
