Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, on Monday chaired a high-level meeting of district officers at the Mini Secretariat to review preparations for the celebration of the 12th International Day of Yoga, scheduled to be observed on June 21. The event will be celebrated this year under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” highlighting the role of yoga in promoting physical well-being, mental health, and active lifestyles, particularly among the elderly population.
The meeting was convened to assess the readiness of various departments and ensure that all necessary arrangements are put in place well ahead of the event. The district administration aims to organize the celebrations on a large scale with active participation from government departments, educational institutions, civil society organizations, youth groups, and members of the general public.
According to the plan discussed during the meeting, the main district-level function will be held at the historic Chowgan Ground in Kishtwar, subject to favorable weather conditions.
The venue is expected to accommodate a large gathering of participants who will take part in mass yoga sessions and wellness activities. Simultaneously, yoga events will also be organized at all sub-divisional headquarters, tehsil headquarters, and block-level offices across the district to ensure maximum public outreach and participation.
During the proceedings, District Nodal Officer AYUSH, Dr. Vikram Singh Jamwal, briefed the chair regarding the detailed action plan prepared for the occasion. He informed the meeting about the arrangements being made for yoga sessions, awareness activities, logistical support, and coordination among various departments involved in organizing the event.
Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma emphasized the importance of effective planning and seamless inter-departmental coordination for the successful conduct of the celebrations. He directed all sectoral officers to complete preparations within the stipulated timeframe and ensure that no aspect of the arrangements is overlooked.
The Deputy Commissioner specifically instructed concerned departments to make adequate arrangements for sanitation, drinking water, uninterrupted power supply, public address systems, and first-aid facilities at all designated venues. He stressed that participant comfort and safety should remain a top priority during the event. Officials were also asked to prepare contingency plans to address any unforeseen circumstances, particularly considering the possibility of adverse weather conditions.
The meeting also reviewed the availability of essential infrastructure and support services required for smooth execution of the programme. Departments were directed to ensure proper cleanliness around event venues and maintain a hygienic environment for participants. Adequate medical support, including first-aid teams and emergency response arrangements, was also discussed to ensure preparedness during the celebrations.
The administration plans to involve schools, colleges, government offices, and local organizations in the observance of the International Day of Yoga. Awareness campaigns are expected to be carried out to encourage wider participation and promote the benefits of yoga among people of all age groups.
Several senior officers attended the meeting, including Additional District Development Commissioner Vinod Kumar Behnal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Pawan Kotwal, Programme Officer ICDS Rishi Kumar Sharma, Chief Executive Officer Kishtwar Development Authority Kaiser Bhawani, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Idrees Lone, Assistant Superintendent of Police Pardeep Singh, Chief Planning Officer Akhil Thakur, Assistant Commissioner Development Manoj Kumar, and District Social Welfare Officer Tariq Parveaz Qazi. Engineers and officers from various departments were also present.
The district administration expressed confidence that with coordinated efforts from all departments, the International Day of Yoga celebrations in Kishtwar will be conducted successfully and witness enthusiastic public participation. The event is expected to reinforce the message of healthy living, holistic wellness, and the importance of yoga in maintaining physical and mental well-being across all sections of society.
