District Development Commissioner Shopian, Choudhary Mohammad Yasin, today convened a meeting here to review implementation of Jal Shakti Abhiyan in the district. The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner Development, District Panchayat Officer, Chief Education Officer, Exen PHE, Chief Agriculture Officer, District Horticulture Officer and other concerned. On the occasion, the DDC invited ideas, traditional knowledge, initiatives undertaken, success stories, and films made on water conservation from concerned citizens and NGOs. He also urged the media to actively participate in the efforts and play its role in the dissemination of information regarding the campaign. The DDC said that the aim of the administration is to provide safe drinking water to every household in a sustainable manner. He added that the aim of Jal Shakti Abhiyan should be to bring positive change in people for water conservation. He also stressed upon the line departments to adopt best practices in water conservation and rainwater harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, watershed development and intensive afforestation. The DDC directed the concerned that a large scale water conservation awareness campaign should also be planned involving mass mobilization of different groups including students, self-help groups, PRI institutions, youth groups and others. Jal Shakti Abhiyan is a water conservation campaign initiated by Union Ministry of Jal Jevan.
