Ashok BJP State Secretary Jammu & Kashmir, Pawan Sharma, has strongly welcomed the historic and bold decision of the Modi Government, with Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah tabling a Constitutional Amendment Bill in Parliament that seeks to bar jailed leaders from occupying top positions like Prime Minister, Chief Minister, Union Ministers, and State Ministers.
Pawan Sharma said that this move is not only timely but also necessary to cleanse the political system of Bharat from the grip of corrupt and criminalized politics. “How can individuals sitting in jail cells be expected to run governments and take decisions in the interest of the nation? This step will put an end to such mockery of democracy,” he asserted. He further stated that under the decisive leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the government has consistently worked to bring reforms that strengthen public trust in democracy. “By ensuring that persons facing serious criminal proceedings cannot misuse constitutional positions, the BJP Government has once again proved that it stands for clean politics and accountable governance,” Sharma said.
Calling it a giant leap towards transparency and integrity in politics, Sharma also took a sharp dig at opposition parties that continue to shield tainted leaders and even project them as faces of governance despite their imprisonment. “It is unfortunate that while the Modi Government is committed to clean politics, some parties are still busy defending corruption and giving political shelter to leaders behind bars.

This Bill is a strong message that Bharat will not allow such politics of convenience anymore,” he added.
“Bharat deserves leadership that is honest, clean, and dedicated to public service. This Bill is a warning to those who believe politics is their shield against law. The message is clear—no one is above the law, and criminals have no place in power,” Sharma said.

Expressing gratitude to PM Shri Narendra Modi and Union HM Shri Amit Shah for bringing this landmark reform, Sharma said the people of Jammu & Kashmir and the entire nation stand firmly with this decision which will pave the way for a stronger and cleaner democracy.
