Reaffirming its commitment to community welfare and youth empowerment, the Indian Army organised an awareness lecture on drug abuse at Higher Senior Secondary School, Bhagwah, in the Doda district. The initiative, aimed at educating the younger generation about the perils of substance abuse, witnessed active participation from more than 70 students and faculty members.
The awareness session served as a vital platform to sensitize the school-going youth and educators about the growing threat of drug addiction, especially among adolescents. Through detailed presentations and interactive discussions, the lecture focused on the devastating consequences of drug consumption on an individual’s physical health, mental stability, and social relationships. Students were made aware of how addiction could lead to severe health problems, academic decline, isolation from family and friends, and even criminal behaviour.
The resource persons also delved into the long-term impacts of drug addiction, particularly how it affects one’s career prospects and personal ambitions. With the support of real-life case studies and practical examples, the session effectively conveyed the seriousness of the issue, leaving a strong impression on the young minds present. Teachers and parents were encouraged to remain vigilant and to recognize early signs of substance abuse in order to intervene at the right time.
Legal ramifications of drug possession and trafficking were also explained in detail to instill a sense of responsibility and awareness among the attendees. Practical strategies for prevention, such as open communication, peer support, involvement in sports, and healthy lifestyle choices, were also discussed. The session empowered not just the students but also the educators to act as positive role models and guides in the fight against drug abuse.
The efforts of the Indian Army were highly appreciated by the local community and school authorities. They lauded the Army’s initiative for not only protecting the borders but also playing an integral role in building a stronger and more informed society.
The Indian Army reiterated its resolve to continue such outreach programs as part of its mission to promote a drug-free, resilient, and responsible future generation. Through continued engagement and awareness campaigns, the Army aims to foster a secure and healthy environment for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
